Zero Cipher

 An interview by Hellric

AM : First can you introduce the band and tell us about the beginnings of the band and the musical background of the members ?

Zero Cipher : I wasn’t around at the beginning, but I’d imagine it was just a bunch of mates getting together to jam some songs…but don’t quote me on that. I joined after a couple of former members left to cry into their journals. As for influences, I’d go with anything from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to William Shatner, from Katie Melua to Marilyn Manson as far as each individual in the band goes.

AM : What are the feedback from press and fans for “Diary of a sadist”, and what are your objectives with this release ?

Zero Cipher : Honestly, it’s been a little mixed but generally it’s positive, and all constructive. The feedback from mainland Europe has been great and I can tell you for a fact that we can’t wait to get out there and play some shows for you guys.

AM : The sound of Zero Cipher is very difficult to describe, there are lots of influences, from english alternative pop/rock to nu metal or even thrash metal, so how would you describe it to people who didn’t listen to the album ?

Zero Cipher : If you’re not afraid to try something different…give us a go. If you like metal then definitely give us a go. We’re a bit like the first time you try anal sex, or cumming on someone’s face OR having someone cum on your face, it takes all sorts after all! You’re either gonna love it or hate it!

AM : In your line-up you have a DJ, that’s not very common in metal bands, how did you get this idea, what is his role in the band ?

Zero Cipher : Barney was a founding member of the band, and as I wasn’t there at the beginning I couldn’t say how the idea came about…but I wouldn’t have argued with him if he suggested it! As for Barn’s role in the band he adds another level to the sound. He doesn’t simply scratch the fuck out of his decks. There’s a lot of samples in our music, like the trumpets in the Hijack, and from time to time there will be some added guitar, as Duncan can’t play 2 guitar parts on his own.

AM : « Diary of a sadist » sounds like a concept album, a diary where each song is for a day, can you explain the story ?

Zero Cipher : It’s not a concept album, just an idea that stuck. All the songs have their own influences both musically and lyrically. We like people to tell us what they think it’s all about.

AM : Some tracks would be great singles, so did you plan releasing singles, videos and other stuff for music televisions ?

Zero Cipher : We did a video for the Hijack which was banned from British TV!!! Although I think you might be able to find it on our website. We’ve recently done a quick promo clip for the Thrills, the Kills, the Rapture which will be up shortly. And with a bit of luck a nice glossy video/single for It’s No Secret will be doing the rounds shortly.

AM : Do you plan tours ? Which bands would you dream to play with in a tour ?

Zero Cipher : We have a small UK tour next month (February) with plans to get over to Europe a bit later this year. Perhaps around April time, although there is still a lot of organising to be done! And if I could play with any band I wanted to, I’d probably go for Faith No More, or White Zombie. They’re two of my all time favourite bands and I never had a chance to see them play.
