AM : Submission’s history began in 2003 and beginning 2006 already sees your first full album, things went fast, so can you retrace the band‘s history until now? You got an award for your demo, did it open the gates ?
Christoffer : Yes…Well it started back in 03 when I played in another metalband ( X-Ceed ) we where just playing cover tunes…that sucked…Then I decided to start writing materiel for another genre, namely the “ Submission genre “ Cause that`s what I always wanted to play, then I hooked up with Kasper our second guitar player, who I thougt was very talented. Very quickly we found out that booth our skills and the chemistry, was right in the eye!!!. Then at that time we had a shitty drummer and a bass player, who did not put enough heart and soul into it, we bitchslapped those fucks, and sent them packing, then we hooked up with the also very talented Morten ( our drummer now ) again everything was in the eye,then our frontman Steven joined the Submission family, and let me tell you we stated to lift off back then…. then we got another bass player….but his priorities was all skrewed up, so we sent that guy packing aswell, then Boris came along ( former Autum Leaves ) He was exactly what we where looking for, talented and a worker..ohh..and a great “ fuck you “ attitude on stage. The Submission circle was now complete, this is where we are today. About the award…well yes it did open some doors for us, cause here we where, a band nobody knew about, and they suddenly got an award, for the very first thing we recorded, then people started to talk, you know like “ who the fuck is Submission??...I don’t know….but that shit kicks ass !!! ) …and that the wave we are riding on.
AM : How did you get a deal with French extreme metal label Listenable, why did you chose them ?
Christoffer : When we recorded Pain or Pleasure our producer Tue Madsen, sent out a few records to varios labels, Listenable being one of them…then like 24 hours later I got a phonecall from Tue saying that Listenable wanted to sign a deal with us…Hey GREAT !!...but we hold our horses just a little while, and a few other deals came along aswell, BUT…the things that we had heard about Listenable, was what we where looking for manely because we did not want be another new band, where the label just set us aside, just to promote their big bands. Laurent Merle ( our record boss ) really work for the bands in every way possible ! ! ! So that’s why.
AM : Tell us who is writing lyrics and music in Submission, is there a main composer, a leader of the band ?
Christoffer : Well the lyrics are writin by Steven and Kasper, and most of the music is something I come up with…..a leader of the band?...hmm I guess that will be me in some way…I don’t know why… maybe because im “ the old guy “ with Boris being 1 year older than me.
AM : Now your first album is out, how do you feel and what are you expecting ?
Christoffer : Yes Failure to Perfection has hit the stores, and that feels very good, and it`s about time ! ! ! Cause Submission is always 1000km/h…you know everything has to go fast, we HATE waiting ! ! ! ! I guess the only thing we expect from this album is, that people get their attention towards Submission, and see what WE have to offer.
AM : Music wise, you are in the swedish death/thrash scene, somewhere between Soilwork and Darkane I‘d say, who are your influences in this style (or in other metal genre maybe) ?
Christoffer : Hehe .. thats not the first time we hear that, well its no secret that we admire our Swedish friends from Soilwork and Darkane, but that’s the road we have chosen for this album, though Submission is always under development, and pushing the boundries for our style and technic + we are from Denmark and not Sweden, I guess we want to make a “ Danish Death / thrash scene….and why not???
AM : What are the essential elements of Submission’s musical personality ?
Christoffer : Did I not just answer that???
AM : What are your projects now ?
Christoffer : Well. we have to go on tour so that people can see that we mean business with this shit. 2. Im writng new materiel for the next album.
