Groupe : Eyes of Eden
Instrument/Position : Vocals

 An interview by Hellric

AM : Franziska, how did you meet Waldemar ? Did you already know his work for other bands, and how were you involved in Eyes Of Eden ?

Franziska : I didn't know Waldemar before Eyes of Eden. We met at the Woodhouse Studios during the recordings of the latest Moonspell Album. Birgit Zacher, my former teacher, had to do some backing vocals and I just came with her to see what she's doing. Waldemar talked about the band and and Birgit told him that I could be a singer for this kind of music. So Waldemar and I tried some songs and we decided to be the band.

AM : Did you had already some experience with a rock/metal band or in another genre before joining EOE ?

Franziska : I never sang in a Rock or Metalband before but I tried a lot of other things. Pop, Jazz, Musical and classical songs, too. Having my own band is definitely something new and exciting for me.

AM : How about the recordings of your first album with EOE, what is difficult ? Due to his awesome experience, Waldemar must be of great help but also very exigeant…

Franziska : Well, he knows what he wants something to sound like and of course he wants it to be as good as possible. Waldemar is a person who makes you try to be better than you thought you could be. So, the recording was kind of difficult because of the pressure I put on myself but it was also a great experience and we really had a good time.

AM :I bet you didn't had too much pain to find a record deal as you're very know from Century Media's bands' fame... How about that ?

Franziska : Waldemar and Century Media always worked together. At least everything started with the band Despair. So, you could say that there have been some lucky circumstances for Eyes of Eden.

AM : Who did write the lyrics and what are they about ?

Franziska : The lyrics were written by Sandra Schleret. I'm sure that she could tell you everything about them, but what I can see in the lyrics is always some kind of strong desire for something invisible. The feeling that there has to be more in your life, but also deep within yourself. Sandra writes about demons and gods and thing like that, but you can always find something true in it that you can compare to things in your real life.

AM : Eyes of Eden should appeal to the fans of Lacuna Coil, Flowing Tears or Xandria for example, but what are the specifities of your sound (i think the heavy metal edge with double bassdrums and solos, few keys but violins, ...) ?

Franziska : You can talk a lot about the different elements in our music and you should ask Waldemar for that, too. For me, as a singer, the feeling is the most important thing. I always say that the music of Eyes of eden is soming that was made with love and not for being commercial. Music always gets special when people come a little bit closer and are open for it.

AM : Do you plan to release singles a to make video clips ? For which songs (choice is difficult as all songs are great !) ?

Franziska : We didn't talk about these things yet. We had to work a lot for the tour, so after that we can put our attention to something new.

AM : You are on tour right now with Paradise Lost, it's a great opportunity how's it going? How's the audience's response as you are a new band? And how is it to share life with monsters as Paradise Lost ?

Franziska : We'll see how it is to share life with "monsters", but I'm sure that Paradise Lost are just great musicians and that touring with them will be fun. I think that it is always kind of difficult for a new band but actually I try to get used to perform on stage with Eyes of Eden. The audience's respond is something that often keeps people from being themselves because their only goal is to give the people what they want but I think that the first thing you have to do is to find your own way and be proud of what you do.

AM : What is your state of mind before entering on stage ? Are you afraid, excited, …. ?

Franziska : I am always excited and I think it has to be this way. But I'm not afraid because I don't think about the people's reaction on me. Before entering a stage I try to find a quite moment to think of nothing but the music.

AM : What do you think about today's female fronted metal scene ? What are the cd's or bands that impressed you a lot recently ?

Franziska : Well, what should think about it? I think it's great that there are more and more women in the scene and all of them got something special. I am impressed by many musicians and most of them are not in the metal scene but to answer your question, I really like the voices of Lacuna Coil, Epica ore Nightwish, too. They are great singers. I'm also always impressed by Evanescence because their singer is so talented. But, as I already said, I don't have an overview about all these female fronted metal bands but I'm sure that some of the ladies are fantastic musicians and should be also respected for that and not just for their looks.

AM : Thanks for the interview !
